St. Silas' Parish exists to honour and worship God in the name of Jesus Christ,
and in the Power of the Holy Spirit, to witness to and serve the community.
Work on the body of the church, designed in the Perpendicular style, was begun in 1894,
and completed in 1898. The church was dedicated for worship on Ascension Day, 1898,
by the Bishop of Manchester.
The Bishop returned on July 18th, 1900, for the service of consecration.
The organ, by Harrison and Harrison of Durham, was built in 1904. It was refurbished in 1989
to include Electro-Pneumatic registration. On completion of the refurbishment, the organ
was rededicated by the Bishop of Lancaster to the memory of Russell Harty.
The tower was built in 1913, and took one year to complete at a cost of six thousand pounds.
In 1914, a four dial clock built by the Midland Clock Works was installed.
The beautiful alabaster reredos was transported from Italy, and installed in 1915.
In 1982, the bells from the redundant church of the Holy Trinity in Blackburn were removed.
At the request of the Lancashire Association of Bell Ringers, they were taken to Taylor's
of Loughborough to be tuned. Afterwards, they were installed in the tower at St. Silas'.
he bells were dedicated by the Right Reverend H. V. Whitsey, 38th Bishop of Chester.

Kathleen Ferrier worshiped at St. Silas' when she lived in Blackburn.
T.V. chat show host, Russell Harty, was a choirboy.
The Right Reverend Hubert Victor Whitsey, 38th Bishop of Chester, was a choirboy.
FACILITIES AT ST. SILAS'
There are microphones, both fixed and radio, connected to wall speakers.
A loop system is installed for those with hearing aids fitted with the T position.
Car parking in the church grounds, and on Preston New Road.
Toilets within the church, including those for the disabled.
If you are unable to walk to the altar to receive Holy Communion, please inform
the duty sidesperson, who will arrange for you to receive Holy Communion in your pew.
